This is a list of resources originally created for my Augusta Heritage Center Folksong Repertoire course in 2014.  I'll update it as necessary for similar courses.

Free Online Collections of Field Recordings

American Folklife Center Online Collections (Includes numerous language and culture groups, but lots of Anglo-American songs!)

Association for Cultural Equity (Alan Lomax Collections made after he left the Library of Congress in 1943)

Louisiana 1934 Lomax Collections (French and English Language)

Wisconsin Folksong Collections (Several language and culture groups.)

Max Hunter Folksong Collection (Huge Ozark Mountain Collection) 

The John Quincy Wolf Folk Song Collection (Smaller Ozark Mountain Collection)

Digital Library of Appalachia (Do a little searching to find song recordings)

Florida Memory (Recordings of the Florida Folk Festival, which features traditional and revivalist performers, from 1954 to 2006.  A huge site!)

The John Donald Robb Field Recordings (1944-1979) (New Mexico, English and Spanish Language. Includes cowboy songs!)

British Library Folk Music Collections (Note: only some of these collections are publicly available.  As you enter each separate collection, a note will tell you if you can play the items in it.)

 "Sound Map": Traditional Music in England is another way of accessing The British Library's English folk music collections.

National Library of Australia Folklore Collections (takes some searching!)

Tobar an Dualchais/Kist o Riches from the School of Scottish Studies (Field Recordings from all over Scotland)

Places to Buy Traditional Field Recordings

Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (Purchase both field recordings and commercial recordings of folksongs from a huge collection.)

Musical Traditions (Purchase field recordings of English and American traditional singers.)

Camsco Music (Purchase most field recordings available on small commercial labels such as Topic.)

Online Indexes

The Roud Indexes at the Ralph Vaughan Williams Memorial Library. (Indexes all known published versions of all known English-language folksongs.  Doesn't include links to texts, but tells you where they were published.)

American Folklife Center Card Catalog.  (No links to audio, but it tells you what's in our disc-era collections ca 1933-1950.)
